Demonstration Against Job Creation Law In Jakarta, National Police Deploys Indonesian Mobile Brigade
JAKARTA - Demonstrations in a number of areas resulted in riots. Anticipating chaotic demonstrations, the National Police Headquarters deployed Brimob Nusantara.
Karo Penmas of the National Police's Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, said that 2,700 Brimob Nusantara personnel were deployed to help secure the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya and Polda West Java.
"Yes, yesterday the BKO Brimob Nusantara came to back up," Awi told reporters, Thursday, October 8.
Thousands of Brimob Nusantara personnel will later be divided into two. However, most will be deployed to secure the capital city of Jakarta.
The reason was that the protesters planned to demonstrate at the State Palace and the DPR building. They demanded that the ratification of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation be canceled.
"To back up Polda Metro Jaya 2,500 personnel and 200 personnel to back up Polda West Java," said Awi.
The demonstration that was held voiced rejection of the ratification of the Omnibus Law on Employment Creation. The protesters came from BEM All Indonesia (SI) students. It is estimated that the number of people involved reached 5,000 people.
