Kevin Bacon's Same-sex Killer Wasn't Crazy And Was On Trial Immediately
JAKARTA - A man who likes gay men was arrested earlier this year after stabbing and mutilating his date. He was put on trial immediately.
Mark Latunski (51) met Kevin Bacon (25) on Christmas Eve 2019, using the gay dating app Grindr. After Bacon arrives at his home in Bennington Township, Michigan, Latunski takes him to the “secret room” which is a BDSM dungeon (a variety of styles and sexual fantasies that couples are familiar with in improving the quality of relationships).
There, the perpetrator said, he stabbed Bacon twice in the back of the neck, then tied him up and slit his throat.
After that, according to a report by Michigan State Police Special Lieutenant David Kaiser, he castrated Bacon with a knife and ate his testicles.
Latunski's ex-wife, Emily, alleged in a 2013 divorce paper that Latunski had a long history of mental illness. Public defender Douglas Corwin said his client went to the hospital four times with mental health problems.
However, Tuesday, October 6 local time, Shiawassee County District Judge Ward Clarkson ruled that Latunski was mentally competent to stand trial.
The Latunski trial will begin on October 23. Since the death of Bacon - a hairdresser and psychology student known for his colorful tattoos - has made headlines, other men have stated that they had an alarming experience with Latunski, who uses a number of aliases on gay dating sites.
As for Lantunski, after her divorce from Emily, she married a man named Jamie Arnold.
Arnold told the Flint Journal that Latunski failed to take the prescribed medication for his mental health problems.
"To my knowledge, I can't force her to see a therapist or take medication," she said. But, he added, "never in a million years did I think he would be able to commit such a horrendous crime."
Arnold said his relationship with Latunski ended in September last year.
"Come to think of it, it's easy to sit back and speculate," he continued, "but the moment you go through it there are emotions and feelings involved. You don't want to think that your loved one is a lunatic killer. "
