Puan Maharani Asks Government To Immediately Follow Up Supreme Court Decision To Provide Halal Vaccine
JAKARTA - Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, asked the government to immediately follow up on the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) regarding the provision of a halal COVID-19 vaccine for Indonesian Muslims.
Following the decision of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to lose in the Supreme Court after the demands for a judicial review of the Indonesian Muslim Consumer Foundation (YKMI) were granted in relation to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 99/2020 concerning Vaccine Procurement.
"I ask the government to immediately conduct consolidation or a meeting related to this matter," said Puan to reporters at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, April 22. The chairman of the PDIP DPP asked the government to immediately mitigate and take steps to socialize the provision of halal vaccines. He also reminded that the Supreme Court's decision would not harm the community. "So that the thing that later becomes the Supreme Court's decision will not harm the community and there will be a solution soon," he said.
"The government will immediately take follow-up steps to socialize and implement this," said Puan.
It is known, the Supreme Court (MA) decided that the COVID-19 vaccine for Muslims in the country must be halal. The government must fulfill this obligation after the Indonesian Muslim Consumer Foundation (YKMI) as the applicant won at the Supreme Court level against President Jokowi Widodo.
This Supreme Court verdict is the result of a judicial review conducted by YKMI on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 99 of 2020 concerning Vaccine Procurement.
