Man City Hero Sergio Aguero Enters The Premier League Hall Of Fame With 5 Other Legends
JAKARTA – The English Premier League inducted six football legends into the ranks of the Hall of Fame. Now a total of 16 former footballers of the competition have received the same award.
This Hall of Fame has been held since 2021. This award aims to recognize the best players to have graced England's top flight in the Premier League era since its inception in 1992.
Six of the latest players to enter the ranks of the Premier League Hall of Fame, one of which is Sergio Aguero. Then there are Paul Scholes, Didier Drogba, Vincent Kompany, Ian Wright and Peter Schmeichel.
Aguero is the foreigner in England with the most goals scored in the competition's history. The former Atletico Madrid man scored 184 goals in just 275 appearances during a 10-year period in which he won five league titles.
The 33-year-old former Argentina international, who retired from professional football due to heart disease earlier this season, is also City's all-time leading goalscorer with 260 goals in 390 appearances across competitions.
Aguero is remembered for helping City to a dramatic stoppage-time win against Queen Park Rangers at the Etihad in the final weekend of the 2011/12 season. The win ensured City clinched the first Premier League title in their history.
Meanwhile, Scholes entered the ranks of the Hall of Fame for winning 11 English Premier titles with Manchester United. During his uniform with the Red Devils, Scholes recorded 107 goals in 499 appearances.
Then Kompany is also considered worthy of being on the list because of his contribution to helping Manchester City become a dominant force in the European Champions League. Then Drogba was considered worthy because he won the league four times with Chelsea.
Wright was subsequently awarded the Hall of Fame for scoring 113 Premier League goals. Schmeichel became the first goalkeeper to be crowned with the honor.
