Bima Arya Threatens The Cigarette Industry: Don't Be Miscellaneous, You Don't Enter The City Of Bogor

JAKARTA - Mayor of Bogor Bima Arya Sugiarto reminded the national and international cigarette industry not to do anything related to cigarette control and cigarette advertising because the local government is committed to protecting the next generation from the dangers of smoking.

"Don't mess with the city of Bogor, God willing, you will not be able to enter the city of Bogor," said Bima during an online discussion with the theme of Collecting the Central Government's Commitment to Prohibit Monitoring Cigarette Ads in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, October 7.

Tobacco control efforts in the city actually only continue the policies that have been made by the previous regional head.

He said that controlling tobacco needs to pay attention to several aspects and a consistent attitude in running it.

First, is the political commitment of a region. This is very important. This is because if the regional head is enthusiastic about tobacco control, but the officials under him are not certain, it will take seriousness and commitment.

If the political commitment has been agreed upon, then it is necessary to make regulations, namely in the form of regional regulations (perda) for areas without smoking, regulations on the prohibition of tobacco advertising, including the age limit for buying cigarettes.

"So the regulation should get sharper over time," said Bima.

Furthermore, the aspect of supervision is in the implementation of the commitments and regulations made and agreed upon earlier. This is important so that what has been made can run well.

Not only that, every region that wants to be committed to tobacco control must also prepare accurate data, whether it is related to citizen discipline, the effectiveness of regional regulations, data on local revenue and so on, must also be prepared.

"Finally, we need network collaboration because it is impossible to work alone," he said.

In line with that, the Mayor of Sawahlunto, West Sumatra, Desri Asta said that he had made a regional regulation on no-smoking areas and cigarette advertisements to control tobacco in the area. The basic thing in the birth of this regional regulation is to protect the younger generation from the dangers of exposure to addictive substances.

In 2013 the Municipal Government of Sawahlunto conducted a survey on hygiene and healthy living habits in the family. From the survey, it was found that the level of clean and healthy life behavior in the family was only 31.4 percent.

"This is low because there are still many people who smoke indoors or indoors," said Desri.
