Bareskrim Thwarts Nigerian Drug Smuggling Efforts
JAKARTA - The National Police Criminal Investigation Unit's Directorate of Narcotics and Customs successfully thwarted the methamphetamine smuggling effort of an international network from Nigeria. In this case the mode used is to put crystal methamphetamine into the oil filter iron.
Brigadier General Krisno H. Siregar, Director of the Directorate of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, said the disclosure of this case began when his party received information about drug smuggling from Nigeria via Soekarno-Hatta Airport on September 28.
"It begins with information about drug smuggling through cargo services from Lagos, Nigeria to Indonesia," Kresno told reporters, Wednesday, October 7.
Then, the information was explored and it was true that there was a package from Nigeria in the form of an oil filter iron. So, it is explored by tracing who is the recipient of the package.
A few days later, a man with the initials A took care of the administration for the collection of the package. So that the Customs and Excise immediately coordinated with the police.
"On October 5, 2020 at around 08.30 WIB, a man with the initials A will arrive who will take care of the documents for package collection. But suddenly A does not take the illegal goods," Krisno said.
Several hours later, the package was picked up by two other people known to have the initials SZ and EF. So, the police who had previously been on standby immediately followed them and arrested them around Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
After being arrested, they were immediately examined. Suspect SZ was asked to pinpoint the whereabouts of A, who was said to be the owner of the 12 kilograms methamphetamine.
However, on the way, SZ tricked the officers by aiming the wrong direction. In fact, he ran away and fought the officers so he was shot by the police.
"One suspect with the initials SZ escaped and fought the officers so that measured decisive action was taken and died," he said.
Meanwhile, someone with the initials A is still in hot pursuit. In addition, from the case, several items of butki were secured, among others, 2 large boxes containing 6 packs of crystal methamphetamine in an iron oil filter weighing 12 kilograms, 6 wigs, 2 units of cellphones, and 1 photocopy of receipt of attack on goods documents.
For his actions, the suspect was charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) and Article 112 paragraph (2) of Indonesian law number 35 of 2009 on narcotics with the threat of a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
