Wijnaldum Thinks Barcelona Are Not Serious About Recruiting Him
JAKARTA - Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is widely rumored to be landing at the Camp Nou. However, until the summer transfer window closes, he remains in Liverpool's uniform.
The 29-year-old was said to be one of Ronald Koeman's main targets, but Wijnaldum said "nothing concrete". He also resigned himself to dismiss reports that he would move to Barcelona.
"I don't think it's that serious," he said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, October 7.
"I will stay at Liverpool. My contract is still valid for another 10 months and that can change. You never know in football."
Wijnaldum has played in all of Liverpool's four Premier League games this season.
The former Newcastle United player has played a vital role in Liverpool's recent success. However, he has yet to sign a new contract extension which will expire in July 2021.
The Reds have reportedly contacted Barcelona that the La Liga club could buy Wijnaldum for 17 million euros this summer. Koeman is said to be trying to recruit the Dutch star to Camp Nou as part of a massive overhaul of the squad ahead of the 2020-2021 La Liga season.
Early last month it was reported that Liverpool had allowed Barcelona to sign this player at a lower price because they did not want to lose Wijnaldum on a free transfer at the end of next season.
However, so far Wijnaldum is still wearing a Liverpool shirt.
