Hotman Paris Leaves Peradi Due To Disagreements With Otto Hasibuan, Who Has Been In Charge For 3 Periods And Satirized For Showing Off Wealth
JAKARTA - Lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea said his decision to leave the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi) was not due to being suspended for three months by the Peradi Honorary Council.
"Some say it's as if I resigned from Peradi because I was suspended for three months, that's not true," said Hotman Paris at a press conference at the Office of the Indonesian National Lawyers Council (DPN), reported by Antara, Wednesday, April 20.
Hotman said he had left Peradi on April 1, 2022, while the suspension decision from the Honorary Board of Peradi was issued on April 12, 2022.
"I had resigned about two weeks before (the suspension decision)," he said.
Hotman said that the main reason he decided to leave Peradi was due to personal problems with Peradi Chairman Otto Hasibuan.
First, Hotman personally disagreed with Otto Hasibuan's three terms as chairman of Peradi. "I personally don't agree. But, because of my friend, I kept quiet," said Hotman.
In addition, Hotman also admitted that he was annoyed at Otto's attitude, who often mocked him for showing off his wealth. He said the act of flaunting wealth, such as luxury cars, was done outside his profession as a lawyer.
"Showing off wealth, like a car, is outside the profession as an advocate," said Hotman.
Hotman also admitted that he felt something was wrong or had problems with Peradi, such as Otto Hasibuan's illegitimate three-term leadership because he was deemed to have violated Peradi's articles of association/by-laws (AD/ART).
Previously, it was reported that Hotman Paris Hutapea was suspended for three months by Peradi. This was conveyed by lawyer Hotma Sitompul at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (19/4).
Hotman was suspended for violating the code of ethics, namely not being able to mediate the household of Hotma Sitompul and Desiree Tarigan.
