The Prosecutor's Office Throws 2 Mentawai ASNs To Prison For Corruption
PADANG - The Mentawai District Attorney, West Sumatra (West Sumatra) indicted two State Civil Apparatuses (ASN) for corruption cases that ensnared them.
The two convicts were Rahmat Jaya (38) and Malindas Saleleubaja (40) who were involved in the case of rural infrastructure development in the form of the construction of several roads and bridges in several locations in South Pagai District, Mentawai in the 2018 fiscal year.
"Today we carried out the bodily execution of two convicts in a corruption case that has been decided by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia at the cassation level," said Head of the Mentawai District Attorney's Office, Siti Holija Harahap, in Padang, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 19.
Before being taken to the State Detention Center (Rutan) Class II B Anak Air Padang, the two convicts had to go through a series of administrative and medical processes first.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Special Crimes Section, Riza Ardiasyah, who was accompanied by the Head of the Intelligence Section, Nazif Firdaus, explained that the second case of convicts was corruption in the development of rural infrastructure in South Pagai in 2018.
The development project has a budget ceiling of IDR 2,095,350,000 and ultimately because of the actions of the convicts, the state finances have cost IDR 658,854,346.
In the project, Rahmat Jaya (38) is known to be a former Camat who served as a Budget User (PA), while Malindas is a former Camat Secretary who served as a Commitment Making Officer (PPK).
"Actually, in this case there is one other defendant, but the Supreme Court has not yet decided," he explained.
Especially for the two convicts, the journey of their cases has undergone a trial process starting from the district court, appeal, to cassation.
Finally, the Supreme Court rejected the cassation from the convict and the public prosecutor so that the contents of the decision returned to the decision of the Padang High Court, which confirmed the decision of the court for corruption at the Class IA Padang District Court number 37/PID.Sus-TPK/2020/PN.Pdg dated 9 February 2021.
Rahmat Jaya was found guilty of committing the “Criminal Acts of Corruption jointly and continuously” as the Public Prosecutor's primary indictment, and sentenced to five years in prison.
In addition, he was also sentenced to a fine of Rp. 200 million, subsidiary of four months in prison, and was obliged to pay a replacement money of Rp. 119,618,115.
Meanwhile, Malindas Saleleubaja was also convicted and proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing “a criminal act of corruption together and continuously” as the primary charge and sentenced to five years in prison.
He was also subject to a fine of Rp. 200 million, subsidiary of four months in prison, and to pay compensation of Rp. 169,618,115.
