Permendikbudristek Says PPKS Can Overcome Cases Of Sexual Violence On Campus

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) stated that Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) was present as a solution to cases of sexual violence that occurred on campus.

"We (the government) are grateful, based on the information contained on the website of the Supreme Court's Registrar's Office that we received, that the Supreme Court has rejected the application for judicial review of Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021. Currently, we are waiting for the release of the said decision from the Supreme Court, "said The Inspector General (Irjen) of the Ministry of Education and Technology, Chatarina Muliana Girsang, in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday, April 18.

The Supreme Court (MA) has officially rejected the judicial review (JR) lawsuit against the PPKS Permendikbudristek. The Permendikbudristek is an effort to prevent sexual violence and an effort to strengthen the system for handling sexual violence that favors the victim.

The presence of this regulatory breakthrough is also intended to create a higher education environment that is safe for all academics and education staff to learn and actualize themselves.

The Inspector-General of the Ministry of Education and Culture also expressed his appreciation to the academic community throughout Indonesia, various civil society institutions, and communities who have supported the issuance of the ministerial regulation and supervised the material review process.

“The birth of this Permendikbudristek is a momentum to unite our steps to protect higher education citizens from the threat of sexual violence that will damage the future. On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Culture, I would like to express my gratitude to the academic community throughout Indonesia as well as various civil society institutions and communities who have supported through the movement and the amicus curiae so that Permendikbudristek PPKS is not canceled," Chatarina said as quoted by Antara.

Previously, the Minangkabau Nature Density Institute (LKAAM) of West Sumatra filed a lawsuit in the form of JR to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, March 2, with Case Number 34 P/HUM/2022. In its lawsuit, LKAAM asked the Supreme Court to review the issuance of Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021 concerning PPKS in the Higher Education Environment.

Meanwhile, the results of the Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) survey in 2022, stated that 92 percent of respondents who knew about the PPKS Permendikbudristek supported the existence of the regulation.
