PT KAI Excited That Freight Forwarding Continues To Grow: Chosen Because It Is Free Of Extortion, Fast And On Time

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) reported that the performance of freight transportation during the first quarter of 2022 recorded positive results with 12.7 million tons of goods or grew by 14.4 percent compared to the same period the previous year, which was 11.1 million tons of goods.

VP of Public Relations of KAI Joni Martinus said that this brilliant score could not be separated from the superior services offered by the company.

“Trains have special features, such as being able to transport large quantities of goods on a single trip, thereby reducing the burden on roads and being free from traffic jams. In addition, freight transportation using trains also has the advantages of being free of extortion, scheduled delivery times, fast and on time, and more environmentally friendly," he said in a statement quoted on Friday, April 15.

In detail, Joni explained that the increase in the volume of freight transportation also occurred in March 2022 where KAI transported 4.8 million tons of goods, up 20.2 percent from February 2022 of 4.0 million tons of goods.

Meanwhile, freight transportation for the March 2022 period is dominated by coal transportation of 3.8 million tons, 408 thousand tons of containers, and 309 thousand tons of cement.

Meanwhile, the largest increase in freight transportation in March compared to February was in coal commodities, which increased by 642 thousand tons or 20.6 percent, containers increased by 66 thousand tons or 19.5 percent, and fuel rose by 43 thousand tons or 24.3 percent.

"The increase in freight transport performance is caused by various factors, including the increase in the frequency of freight trains, weather factors, and others," he said.

Joni added that the improved performance of freight transportation is a very important achievement for KAI for the company's sustainability in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We will continue to optimize freight transportation by continuing to collaborate, engineering operating patterns, and looking for transportation potentials and new partners," he concluded.
