Angkasa Pura I Records Increase In Aircraft Passengers To 57 Percent In The First Quarter Of 2022

JAKARTA - The aviation sector has begun to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This can be seen from the increase in aircraft passengers at 15 airports managed by PT Angkasa Pura I, which reached 57 percent during the first quarter of 2022.

"Angkasa Pura I served up to 9,781,788 passengers during the first quarter (January - March) 2022, an increase of up to 57 percent compared to the same period the previous year which served 6,212,095 passengers at 15 airports managed," said the President Director. Angkasa Pura I, Faik Fahmi, he said in an official statement, Thursday, April 13.

In addition, aircraft movement traffic also increased by 1.16 percent to 102,920 aircraft movements in the first quarter of 2022 from 101,735 aircraft movements in the first quarter of 2021. The increase also occurred in cargo traffic, which increased by 5.8 percent to 113,939,985 kg in the first quarter of 2022 from 107,686,309 kg in the first quarter of 2021.

Faik said that in the first quarter of this year, the highest passenger and cargo traffic occurred in March with traffic of 3,318,363 passengers and 39,720,699 kg of cargo. Meanwhile, the highest aircraft movement traffic occurred in January with a traffic of 34,666 aircraft movements.

Angkasa Pura Airports with the highest passenger traffic and aircraft movements in the first quarter of 2022 is Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar which serves 2,169,687 passengers and 18,260 aircraft movements.

Then, followed by Juanda Airport Surabaya, which served 2,016,286 passengers and 15,895 aircraft movements, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, which served 1,591,678 passengers and 13,290 aircraft movements.

As for cargo traffic, Sentani Jayapura Airport is the highest with 34,389,720 kg, followed by Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar with 19,902,726 kg, and Juanda Airport in Surabaya with 16,711,003 kg.

"The increase in the number of passengers and flight traffic at the airports we manage in the first quarter of 2022 is a positive indication that people's confidence is starting to recover to return to traveling by air transportation and supported by easier and more comfortable travel requirements," he said.

According to Faik, this cannot be separated from the better handling of COVID-19 and the increasing number of vaccinations in the country.

Until the end of 2022, Angkasa Pura I projects an increase in passenger traffic to 38.8 million passengers, or an increase of 36 percent compared to 2021 passenger traffic of 28.4 million passengers.

Meanwhile, aircraft traffic is projected to grow 37 percent to 547,787 aircraft movements from 400,475 aircraft movements in 2021 and cargo traffic is projected to grow 4 percent to 451,024,000 kg from 433,904,000 kg in 2021.

"We are optimistic that we can achieve the projected target considering that there are various factors that support the achievement of the projections set, such as regulations on air transportation travel requirements that are getting easier, the government is allowed to go home for Eid and joint leave," he said.
