Fierce Debate, BEM UI Asks To Open Big Data, Luhut: You Are Young, You Have No Right To Sue Me

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan was involved in a debate with the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI).

The debate was about the discourse on extending the presidential term which was often voiced by Luhut. This includes BEM UI's request for Luhut to open big data which he claims contains 110 million netizens who support the postponement of the general election.

"You are a public official, sir. It is as if public officials have allowed three periods of postponing the election," said BEM UI chairman Bayu Satria Utomo, quoted from the KOMPASTV YouTube channel.

"You assume," said Luhut.

"That's because the palace is not clear," continued Bayu.

"That's right!" answered the mass of BEM UI who was also at the debate location.

"What needs to be answered, the President has said that the election will still be on February 14, 2024, what else should I do," said Luhut.

"So is it true that big data was conveyed by whose wish, sir? I ask for a firm answer today," asked Bayu.

"I said I said nothing else," said Luhut.

"So public officials are allowing Pak Jokowi to do this or what, sir," said the student.

"I only conveyed that there was data," Luhut replied.

"Now we ask for big data transparency, agreed, friends," asked Bayu.

"If you agree, I don't agree, right? Can we have different opinions or not?" Luhut asked.

"Yes, that's our goal now to demand that you immediately agree because this is the aspiration of the Indonesian people," said Bayu.

"You are young, you have no right to sue me. Because I have rights," answered Luhut.

The debate between Luhut and BEM UI occurred on the sidelines of Luhut's visit at the UI Convention Center, Depok, West Java, Tuesday, April 12. Initially, the BEM UI mass held a demonstration until they finally met Luhut who visited UI.
