KPU Is Waiting For KPK's Confirmation Regarding The Arrest Of Its Commissioner

JAKARTA - Four leaders of the General Election Commission (KPU) led by Arief Budiman visited the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office. Their presence was to confirm the news of the arrest of one of its commissioners in the KPK's arrest operation (OTT).

"We want to confirm whether it is true that one of the KPU members was questioned at the KPK and he stated that it is true that the initials Mr. WS is being investigated," said Arief to reporters after a meeting at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, January 8.

Arief also coordinated with KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata who was accompanied by KPK Public Relations Head Febri Diansyah and Plt. The KPK spokesman for the prosecution department Ali Fikri. In the meeting which lasted 45 minutes, Arief explored deeper information about what had trapped his colleague.

But certainly, Arief explained that his party together with the KPK would open a press conference room to explain what made one of its commissioners entangled in the OTT.

"Tomorrow afternoon it is planned to give a press statement, the KPU will likely be invited, yes. So today we only got confirmation that it was true that what Mr. WS was examining," he said.

Regarding the arrest of one of the commissioners, Arief said he was not sure whether the KPU would provide legal assistance. Because, his party is still waiting for an announcement from the KPK regarding who is the suspect in the arrest operation.

It is known that the General Election Commission (KPU) is currently led by KPU Chairman Arief Budiman along with a number of other commissioner members, namely Ilham Saputra, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, Hasyim Asy'ari, Evi Novida Ginting Manik, Wahyu Setiawan, and Viryan.

It is said that one of the KPU commissioners was picked up by the anti-graft agency prosecution team in Jakarta. According to KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri, the team who gave and received bribes had now been arrested.

"We made arrests of the perpetrators who were committing a criminal act of corruption in the form of bribery. We are still working," he said when contacted by reporters.
