When Jokowi Strictly Talks About The 2024 Election The Day Before The Student Demonstration
As uploaded on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube, Jokowi issued an official statement that simultaneous elections for the presidential and legislative elections will still be held on February 14, 2024.
"First, I want to convey to the public that all stages and schedules for the implementation of the general election and regional elections have been determined. I think it is clear and everyone needs to know that the election will be held on February 14, 2024," said Jokowi.
Simultaneous elections in question are elections to elect the President and Vice President, members of the House of Representatives (DPR) RI, Regional Representatives Council (DPD), Provincial People's Representative Council (DPRD), and Regency/Municipal DPRD.
"This needs to be explained, lest there will be speculations circulating in the community that the government is delaying the election, or speculation on the extension of the president's office and related to three terms," added President Jokowi.
Whether intentional or not, Jokowi issued a firm statement to quell the issue of delaying the 2024 election just a day before the demonstration that the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) would hold.
From a few days earlier, BEM SI had planned to hold a demonstration against the postponement of the election on Monday, April 11, today.
After Jokowi held the Ratas, BEM SI also changed the action point which was previously at the Merdeka Palace or the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue area to be in front of the Indonesian Parliament building. Thus, the target of this student alliance action is no longer aimed at Jokowi, but the DPR RI.

Media Coordinator of BEM SI Luthfi Yufrizal said the reason the action points were moved was that students wanted to make sure the existing constitution was running.
"Therefore, we will oversee the law and ensure that the DPR RI implements the constitution properly in accordance with the existing one," said Luthfi.
Here are the demands for the SI BEM action that was held today:
1. Urge and demand representatives of the people to listen and convey the aspirations of the people, not the aspirations of the party.
2. Urge and demand representatives of the people to pick up the aspirations of the people as the mass actions that have been carried out from various regions from March 28, 2022, to April 11, 2022.
3. Urge and demand people's representatives not to betray the state constitution by making amendments, being firm in rejecting the postponement of the 2024 election or 3 term of office.
4. Urge and demand representatives of the people to submit a study accompanied by 18 student demands to the president which have not yet been answered.
