Inspired By Private Jets, This Cruise Ship Concept Looks Like A Spaceship
JAKARTA - Along with the increasing popularity of cruise ships, various sizes and designs of ships continue to grow from year to year, making it not an easy matter to present an interesting concept.
However, the team at Lazzarini Design Studio have done their best to meet the challenge. Just months after unveiling the concept of a superyacht that can fly and sail, the Rome, Italy-based design firm has released a new design for a futuristic ship that wouldn't look out of place in a 'Star Trek' movie.
At just 20 meters (65 feet), the Royal Alpha One is much smaller than the atypical superyacht designs that Lazzarini is known for, but no less interesting or innovative.
The designers aimed to create a compact ship with a superyacht feel, and if the newly released renderings are anything to go by, they've managed to achieve just that.
Inspired by Lazzarini's Royal Jet Capsule, a yacht pod 7.6 meters long and 3.3 meters wide, the vessel has a black, gray and green exterior and features a photochromic glass surface.
Consisting of three decks, the Royal Alpha One has a layout similar to that of a private jet, with a large lounge area filled with plush chairs.
With space for up to 20 passengers, it has three en suite cabins, a garage filled with water toys, a large dining area, but its standout feature is undoubtedly the panoramic hot tub on the top of the ship, which has a retractable bottom.
While the design team considered a twin or triple Volvo Penta IPS propulsion system for the Royal Alpha One, with a maximum speed of between 32 and 42 knots, hydrogen-powered propulsion is also possible.
As reported by CNN March 15, the project currently has a price tag of more than 3.5 million euros, or about 3 million US dollars, with the hull model already completed.
Lazzarini estimates it will take around 15 to 16 months to build, which means we could see the Royal Alpha One become a reality in late 2023 if a buyer is found.
Although the project has not yet been picked up, Lazzarini hopes they will find a client and his design to produce in the near future.
The Royal Alpha One is one of a number of exciting new cruise ship concepts that have been revealed in recent months.
Dutch company Phathom Studio's presented The Phathom 60m, a 60m-long concept with a three-story glass atrium, unveiled last month, while Iddes Yachts has introduced its 54.8m electric sailing superyacht, the Sail 55, which has been specially designed for sustainable sailing.
