9 Locations In Malang City Flooded Due To Heavy Rain

MALANG - Heavy rains that flushed the Malang City area, East Java for more than two hours caused nine points in the area to experience flooding due to overflowing water flows.

Head of the Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Alie Mulyanto, said heavy rains accompanied by momentary strong winds triggered an increase in water discharge in the area and resulted in overflowing floods.

"This condition causes drainage and rivers to overflow, causing inundation. The inundation points remain the same, spreading at 18 points, but the ones that are quite prominent are at nine points," he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, April 8.

The nine points in Malang City that were reported to have experienced flooding were Jalan Sudimoro and Jalan Mojolangu, Mojolangu Village, Penanggungan Street, Penanggungan Village and Polehan area RT08/04 Polehan Village, Malang City.

In addition, he continued, overflow flooding also occurred in the Samaan area RT01/03 Samaan Village, Taman Siswa Street and Karya Timur Street, Purwantoro Village, Soekarno-Hatta Street, Mojolangu Village and Ikan Piranha Atas Street, Tunjungsekar Village, Blimbing District.

"At 17.00 WIB, the intensity of the rain has decreased and it has been observed in several locations that the water discharge has also decreased," he said.

Meanwhile, on Jalan Taman Siswa in Purwantoro Village, the swift flow of water caused the walls of the house fence to collapse, including the wall that separates the river from the residents' houses. In addition, a guard post was also reported damaged by the incident.

"On Jalan Taman Siswa, approximately 60 families or 210 people were affected. The puddle was reported to have receded at approximately 17:45 WIB," he said.

Due to the overflowing flood inundation at a number of points, said Alie Mulyanto, some roads in the Malang City area are also experiencing congestion due to vehicles not being able to pass.

In addition to the Malang City area, heavy rains also occurred in Batu City which also caused flooding in Beru Hamlet, Banaran Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City. Based on the Batu City BPBD report, at least eight houses were affected by puddles and mud materials.
