The Deputy Chair Of CdM Gives Specific Reasons For The Indonesian Contingent Not To Set A Number Of Medals

JAKARTA - Deputy Chief de Misson (CdM) Tubagus Ade Lukman revealed the specific reason why the Indonesian contingent was not set a target for the number of medals won at the SEA Games Hanoi 2021.

"This SEA Game is an intermediate target of the Indonesian contingent being prepared for the 2024 Paris Olympics, so we are not targeting the number of medals of any kind, because this intermediate goal is the preparation of the Indonesian team, Indonesia's elite athletes to go to the Olympics," he said. Ade Lukmat when contacted by VOI.

Indonesia will send as many as 476 athletes from 31 sports to the biennial Southeast Asian event. That number shrank 43.4 percent from the total contingent in the previous edition in the Philippines 2019.

This depreciation will automatically have a significant effect on medal gains. It is estimated that at least Indonesia will lose 30 gold medals.

Ade Lukmat said that although there was no target for the number of medals, his party had calculated the number of medals the Indonesian contingent could get. He also hopes that later the acquisition will not miss the calculations made by the review team.

"But we hope that the athletes who depart are athletes who do have the potential for medals and it is also hoped that this will be a Southeast Asian event where our athletes have the opportunity to prepare themselves for a higher level, namely the Asian Games, and after There is an Olympic qualifying round," he said.

The Hanoi SEA Games will take place on 12-23 May in 12 cities in Vietnam. For the year as many as 40 sports will be contested in 526 match numbers.

In the 2019 edition in the Philippines, Indonesia ranks fourth in the final medal standings. At that time the Red and White contingent brought home a total of 267 medals with details of 72 gold, 84 silver and 111 bronze.
