Jambi Customs Seizes 1.6 Million Illegal Cigarettes
JAMBI - The Jambi Customs Enforcement and Investigation Team (P2) confiscated as many as 1.6 million illegal cigarettes without excise stamps.
Head of the Extension and Information Services Section of Jambi Customs, Enny Efirani, said that the action was carried out on Jalan Lintas Sumatra, Muarabungo after the team received information related to the activity of sending cigarettes without excise.
Enny said that initially information was obtained regarding the existence of illegal cigarette shipments from Java Island by land.
After conducting an investigation, the Jambi Customs P2 Team finally succeeded in taking action on Thursday (7/4).
The evidence seized in the form of 100 packs of illegal cigarettes in a Mitsubishi Canter HDL truck. The driver and car assistant were taken into custody for further questioning.
"The total state loss is estimated at IDR 1.2 billion," said Enny as quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 7.
Currently Jambi Customs is still conducting research, prevention, and sealing of confiscated evidence.
Various strategies have been developed by the Customs and Excise P2 Team to continue to secure the circulation of illegal goods, especially goods subject to excise duty on tobacco products (illegal cigarettes).
