Residents Of 46 Urban Villages In Palu City Get Free Internet From Kominfo

PALU - A total of 46 urban villages in Palu City, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) received free internet facilities from the local Communication and Information Office (Diskominfo).

"Installation of internet services has been completed and aims to provide broad network access to people throughout the Palu City area," said Plt. Head of the Palu City Communications and Informatics Agency Nathan Pasongan when contacted from Palu, Thursday 7 April.

He explained that the internet network installation was carried out in collaboration between the Palu City Communications and Information Office and PT Telkom, by placing free internet facilities at strategic points based on the provisions of the 46 urban villages.

From this collaboration, he continued, PT Telkom then installed seven Indihome networks or internet modems in each kelurahan, as an effort by the Palu City Government to provide digital services while increasing citizen literacy through digital transformation.

Free internet network is devoted to the community. This means that people are free to access by providing a quota of 20 Mbps without a key code (password)," he continued.

Internet services today, he said, have become part of the public's need to access information, and have even become a space for education and support in educational activities.

"In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are learning and teaching activities that are face-to-face, some are online. This service is very useful for the community, especially students and students in carrying out educational tasks," he explained.

He said that as the direction of Palu City's development as a smart city, the provision of an internet network is one of the priority programs that are currently being pushed.

In addition, Palu, as a developing city, should open the widest possible internet access in public spaces to encourage people to become technology literate.

"The installation of services is budgeted for by the Palu Diskominfo. The provision of facilities has been going on since last February and now all urban villages have free internet networks. If there is a technical problem, the sub-district government immediately reports to us so that it will be coordinated with PT Telkom," he said.
