Respect To IDI Regarding Terawan's Dismissal, Fahri Hamzah Questions The Clarity Of Doctors Dressed In Stripes And Slings Of Gunpowder
JAKARTA - Gelora Party deputy chairman Fahri Hamzah expressed his appreciation for the courage of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) to revoke the membership of the first military doctor who had served as Minister of Health (Menkes) Terawan Agus Putranto.
Fahri questioned the clarity of the doctor who often wore a striped shirt. It is a challenge for IDI in the future to discuss this further.
"A doctor usually wears a white robe and wears a stethoscope, creating a clean and calm atmosphere, but if a doctor is wearing a shirt and slings of gunpowder and gun, it will create something that the medical world we must be able to explain. That's the challenge of IDI," said Fahri, quoted by Antara. from his Twitter, @Fahrihamzah, Wednesday 6 April.
Terawan is known to have the title of Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.). He is noted to have served as Head of the Central Jakarta Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) and Chairman of the Presidential Doctors Team.
When he was dismissed from IDI membership based on the results of the IDI Medical Ethics Honorary Council (MKEK) in Banda Aceh, Terawan received many defenses from members of the DPR, officials and politicians.
Fahri assessed that Terawan's previous position indicated his closeness to power. He said the situation affected the independence of a person who works as a doctor.
"Terawan is a former minister and has been a member of the Indonesian President's Doctor Team. There is an inherent influence of power, whether consciously or not, affecting the independence of the medical profession and the academic world. We respect IDI who dares to open up to a debate," said Fahri.
Terawan was dismissed from IDI's membership based on the MKEK's decision at the 31st IDI congress on 22-25 March. The basis for Terawan's dismissal was set out in the MKEK IDI which was held on 8 February. Terawan was judged to have committed a serious ethical violation.
During a meeting with Commission IX DPR with IDI, Monday, April 4, IDI member and clinical pharmacology specialist, Prof. Rianto Setiabudi explained the background behind Terawan's dismissal from IDI membership.
Prof. Rianto revealed that the digital subtraction angiography (DSA) or brainwashing method for treating stroke patients modified by Terawan Agus Putranto had a big problem. According to him, there are certain parts of Terawan's 'Brainwashing' dissertation which contain substantial weaknesses.
Prof Rianto said that the small dose of heparin used in the Terawan DSA method did not function to dissolve blood clots in the brains of stroke patients. But only to prevent clogged blood clots at the end of the catheter which serves to indicate the location of the blockage.
"DSA is a method, a radiological method of inserting a catheter from a blood vessel in the thigh to the brain. There the contrast is released. The contrast will show where the blockage is. So, to keep the tip of the catheter open, give a small dose of heparin. to prevent blood clots at the tip of the catheter," said Prof Rianto.
"When it is used, a very big problem arises, namely those who are used are stroke people whose strokes have been more than one month old," he said.
"So the blood clot has hardened there and it's impossible, we look in any literature, which shows that heparin is effective for breaking down (or) dissolving blood clots," said Prof Rianto.
