Lawyers Hope Munarman Can Be Freed From Claims

JAKARTA - The defendant in the alleged criminal act of terrorism, Munarman, underwent a sentencing hearing at the East Jakarta District Court, today, Wednesday, April 6. The legal team hopes that Munarman will be released from all charges.

Aziz Yanuar, Munarman's attorney, is optimistic that the panel of judges can give the best decision and release his client in this case.

"Hopefully they are free. Hopefully the panel of judges will give the best decision," said Aziz, Wednesday, April 6.

The hearing was held at 09.00 WIB. The trial took place behind closed doors and the media only covered it from the court's veranda.

Previously, the prosecution had submitted a demand for eight years in prison. In his claim, the Public Prosecutor stated that Munarman had been legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act of terrorism.

This refers to Article 15 Juncto Article 7 which has been stipulated as Law Number 15 of 2003 concerning Perppu Number 1 of 2002 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism to become Law Juncto of Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning amendments to Law 15 of 2003 concerning the stipulation of Perppu Number 1 of 2018. 2002 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.

"The sentence imposed on the defendant Munarman is 8 years in prison minus the prison term with an order that the defendant remains detained," said the public prosecutor.

In his claim, the Public Prosecutor also elaborated on the aggravating matters. Munarman, in this case is considered not to support the government's program in eradicating terrorism, has served a sentence, until he does not admit his actions.
