Rapists Of 13 Santri Sentenced To Death, House Of Representatives Commission VIII: Good Deterrent Effect So Pedophiles Think A Thousand Times

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission VIII DPR RI Yandri Susanto appreciates the West Java (Jabar) High Court (PT) which sentenced Herry Wirawan, the rapist of 13 students in Bandung, to death.

He hopes the death penalty will serve as a deterrent for perpetrators of rape and other sexual harassment.

"This is in line with our expectations so far, including I hope that the maximum punishment is as a deterrent to other pedophiles," said Yandri, Tuesday, April 5.

The head of the commission on religion considered that the death penalty for Herry Wirawan was a form of resistance against perpetrators of sexual crimes. Especially, for perpetrators of sexual crimes against minors.

"I believe that the milestone is our seriousness in taking the fight or dealing seriously with sexual violence against children," said Yandri.

"This is a Ramadan gift, something like that," he continued.

Yandri emphasized that the death penalty is also the best punishment for pedophiles so that they think again when they want to carry out their actions.

"This is a good deterrent effect, so that the pedophile can think a thousand times to do the things he does," he said.

It is known that Herry Wirawan's sentence for raping 13 female students was increased to the death penalty on appeal on Monday, April 4.

The death sentence was handed down by the Chief Judge of the Bandung High Court, Herri Swantoro. He granted the appeal filed by the Public Prosecutor.

"Received an appeal request from the prosecutor/public prosecutor. Sentencing the defendant therefore with the death penalty," said the judge.

This High Court decision corrected the decision of the Bandung District Court which sentenced him to life imprisonment, even though the Public Prosecutor filed a death penalty request.
