Inspector General Napoleon Denies Receiving Money, Lawyers Call It Only Notes

JAKARTA - Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte emphasized that he had never received Rp7 billion from Joko Tjandra. However, he suspected that the money had already been received by someone else.

This statement was conveyed by Inspector General Napoleon in response to the statement of the Bareskrim Polri lawyers who said there was an agreement between Inspector General Napoleon and Tommy Sumardi worth Rp. 7 billion to remove Joko Tjandra's red notice.

"Earlier, I saw that, as reported in the media so far, it seems that it is not entirely correct, maybe Joko Tjandra has already given people money," said Napoleon after the trial at the South Jakarta District Court, Wednesday, September 30.

In fact, the question of the alleged giving of money during a birthday celebration at Hotel Mulia, Central Jakarta, Napoleon still denied this. He emphasized that no money had ever been received from Joko Tjandra or Tommy Sumardi.

"I don't know, maybe he (Joko Tjandra) has already given money to other people. But to me or not, there is nothing," he said.

Attorney General Napoleon, Gunawan Raka, said there was no evidence that could confirm that his client accepted the bribe. Only in the attached evidence is a receipt from Joko Tjandra to Tommy Sumardi.

"So I will convey this, regarding the question like this, yes, in the evidence there is indeed a series of 7 billion in cash, the money is not there, only a receipt from Joko which Tommy received," he said.

Previously it was reported, the Bareskrim Polri legal team conveyed a number of reasons behind the suspect's determination of Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte. One of them is a matter of evidence if the applicant agrees to remove Joko S. Tjandra's red notice with a wage of Rp.

The agreement was made between Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte and Tommy Sumardi, who was also a suspect in the case. At the beginning of the agreement for the processing of red notice it was only Rp. 3 billion.

"The fact of the petition's actions is that after a meeting of an agreement on an amount that was originally Rp. 3 billion, which was finally agreed upon to be Rp. 7 billion," said a Bareskrim attorney at the court hearing, Tuesday, September 29.

In a meeting that took place on April 13, 2020, it was agreed that payments will be made in US dollars and Singapore dollars.

In this case, Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte was named a suspect who was suspected of being the recipient of the bribe. He was charged with Article 5 Paragraph 2, Article 11 and Article 12 letters a and b of Law Number 20 of 2020 concerning Corruption (Tipikor) in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code.

In the bribery case, investigators confiscated US $ 20 thousand, cellphones, including CCTV as evidence.
