Two Mother Goats Owned By Agam Residents Of West Sumatra Allegedly Predated By Tigers

LUBUKBASUNG - Two goats belonging to a resident of Maua Hilia, Jorong Kayu Pasak Timur, Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra are suspected of being eaten by a Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), Monday, April 4 in the morning.

The livestock owner, Doni (18) in Lubukbasung, said that the two mother goats were dead and one was missing.

"It is possible that one goat was taken by the animal to another area," he said as quoted by Antara.

He said the two goats were eaten by these animals around the house. A total of nine goats owned.

Meanwhile, seven other goats managed to escape from the animal's pursuit, so they could survive. "Seven of my goats survived and I have secured them in the cage," he said.

He admitted, around the location of the goat carcass, many footprints were found from protected animals under Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems.

Meanwhile, the guardian of Nagari Salareh Aia, Iron Maria Edi, said that this was the second human-animal conflict in Maua Mudik, Jorong Kayu Pasak Timur, Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan District.

Previously, there were also local cattle that were preyed on by tigers on November 30, 2021.

"The tiger managed to enter the trap enclosure belonging to the Maninjau Resources Conservation Agency Resort on January 10, 2022 and this is probably another individual," he said.

With this incident, he appealed to residents to be careful in the gardens and to place livestock to safer locations, so as not to be preyed upon.
