Rape Of 19-Year-Old Girl From The Lowest Caste In India Triggers A Mass Movement

JAKARTA - The death of a 19-year-old woman who was a victim of rape sparked a demonstration in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is noted that hundreds of people from the Bhim Army Party took to the streets because the government failed to protect women, especially those from the lowest caste in India.

“Law and order in India has deteriorated considerably. There is almost no protection for women. Criminals openly commit crimes, ”tweeted the leader of the opposition Congress party, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, quoted by Reuters, Tuesday, September 29.

Previously, the victim was attacked and raped on September 14 in a field near her home in Hathras. The woman's life could not be saved even after being taken to a hospital in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The police then moved quickly by arresting four men who were suspected of having committed rape. Local authorities also promised to carry out investigations and gather evidence in a fast time.

"We will take the matter to the fast-track court for faster investigation and evidence gathering," local authorities said in a statement.

Based on this case, the state of Uttar Pradesh which is led by PM Narendra Modi's political vehicle, the Bharatiya Janata Party, is the most unsafe area for women in India. Because, in December last year, there was an incident of a 23-year-old woman being burned by a group of men when she went to court to file charges of rape.
