Bruno Fernandes Extends Contract At Manchester United Until 2026

JAKARTA – Bruno Fernandes has officially signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United. This new deal makes the Portuguese player stay at Old Trafford until 2026 later.

The 27-year-old player, who joined the Red Devils in 2020 for a transfer fee of 47 pounds (Rp886 billion), before being under contract until 2025. In this latest deal there is also an option to extend it for another year.

"There's so much more I want to achieve here and it's the same for the rest of the squad and staff. More than anything, we want to give the fans the success they deserve," Bruno was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"We have shared some great moments, but the best is yet to come from me and this team," the former Sporting Lisbon man added.

Fernandes has scored 49 goals in 117 games in all competitions for United. In addition, he has also contributed 39 assists for the team.

Manchester United director of football John Murtough said Bruno Fernandes had a high level of professionalism. In addition, he is also considered to have appeared very consistent since his arrival.

"Bruno, like everyone at club football, remains very ambitious and determined to deliver continued success on the pitch to get us back to challenging for the title," said Murtough.

The Maia-born player is considered one of the key signings. That was proven by the Matt Busby Player of the Year award he received from his two full seasons at Old Trafford.

So far, no player has scored more goals for the club since Bruno Fernandes joined. He is also the club's top scorer after scoring 28 goals in all competitions last season.

It's just that his appearance this season has been in the spotlight, especially as Manchester United slumped to sixth in the Premier League standings. Apart from being sluggish domestically, the Red Devils also did not excel in Europe so they had to be eliminated from the Champions League.
