Conmebol Zone 2022 World Cup Qualification: Peru Secures Play-off Quota, Argentina Draws Against Ecuador

JAKARTA - The Qatar 2022 World Cup qualification for the Conmebol zone has completed the last match on Wednesday, March 30, the morning of Indonesian Western Time (WIB). In this last match, Peru managed to secure a ticket to the play-offs.

Appearing at the Estadio Nacional de Lima, Peru bagged a 2-0 win against Paraguay. The two goals for the team nicknamed La Blanquirroja were scored by Gianluca Lapadula (minute 5) and Yoshimar Yotun (minute 42).

This victory over Paraguay made Peru finish fifth in the standings by collecting 24 points from 18 matches. They are also entitled to a ticket to the play-offs between the confederations.

In the play-offs later, Peru will face representatives of Asia. Tickets from Asia are currently being fought over by Australia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Meanwhile, Argentina failed to win in this final match against Ecuador. It was 1-0 up since the 24th minute through Julian Alvarez's goal, a win that was already in sight after Ecuador scored in the 93rd minute through Enner Valencia's action.

In another match, Brazil won by a landslide when they traveled to the headquarters of Bolivia. Tite's team won 4-0 through goals from Lucas Paqueta (24 minutes), Richarlison (45, 91) and Bruno Guimaraes (66).

With this result, Brazil is increasingly firmly at the top of the standings with 45 points. Argentina is in second place with 39 points.
