Stormzy Will Visit Jakarta In The FLAVS Event
JAKARTA - Entering the seventh day of 2020, more and more surprises are ready to entertain Indonesian music lovers. FLAVS - which claims to be the first hip hop, soul, R&B festival in the country - is heating up the timeline by confirming the presence of Stormzy, the rapper from England.
Stormzy's name became the talk of the last few years. You see, he became the first black British solo artist to gain attention as a headliner at the Glastonbury festival.
He has also won dozens of awards, including BET and Brits. He has also collaborated with several musicians such as the Little Mix group, Jorja Smith, and Ed Sheeran.
A career since 2014, singer whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. this has started to get attention since his second album, Heavy is the Head was released last year. At that time, the album received positive appreciation by music critics.
NME described Heavy is the Head as an album with a genre that was "broad and not blunt". Stormzy is also said to be able to manage accents, words, and context in songs. Stormzy often does vocals on emerging issues.
One of his singles, Own It, became the first song to reach number one on the UK charts in 2020. He also just released a music video for the song Disappointed on his YouTube channel on January 6.
Rapper Yacko, Program Director of FLAVS, expressed his admiration for bringing Stormzy to Jakarta. "Stormzy is one of the rappers that you should put on your bucket list to be watched at least once in a lifetime. If the United States has Jay Z, then Britain has Stormzy!" he said during the FLAVS press conference.
Initiated by Visicita Networks and Dyandra Promosindo, FLAVS will be held for two days, April 4-5 2020 at Istora Senayan. They promise a hip hop culture that will be the main presentation of the event starting from breakdancing, rap, live painting graffiti, beatbox, and DJ showcase, and others. Prior to the event, FLAVS will hold a roadshow to Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Yogyakarta.
