Besides Live Action, One Piece Gets RPG With New Story From Series Creator

JAKARTA - One Piece will get its newest video game. During a video presentation celebrating the 25th anniversary of One Piece, Bandai Namco announced that the popular manga or anime series will get a new RPG based on the original story written by creator Eiichiro Oda.

One Piece Odyssey is a brand new open world game where the Straw Hats have the treasure to find a mysterious island to explore. One Piece Odyssey is coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in 2022.

The game was developed by ILCA, a Japanese studio that recently worked on remakes of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl, as well as Dragon Quest XI and Nier Replicant.

While the announcement trailer doesn't show too much beyond cut scenes and exploration, we do know that there will be turn-based combat and players will have the Thousand Sunny crew and new characters at their disposal.

In addition to the new game, One Piece will also get a live action adaptation from Netflix. Several cast names have been announced, such as Inaki Godoy as the leader of the Straw Hats, Monkey D. Luffy.

One Piece creator, Eiichiro Oda, has a habit of enthusiastically sharing his thoughts accompanied by cute little pictures of his characters. As for the One Piece Odyssey reveal, he said that he felt like he was watching a movie when he saw the gameplay.

“I thought to myself, isn't it like three years ago when I was designing the characters? Ha ha ha! But when I actually saw the game... Wow! It's like watching a MOVIE!!! What an immersion," he wrote.
