Not Wanting Their Best Employees To Be Snatched Away By Meta, Apple Again Gives Bonus Shares Of Up To Rp. 2.8 Billion

JAKARTA - Apple does not want its best engineers to leave the company. For this reason, they again provide bonus shares with a value of between 100,000 US dollars, equivalent to Rp. 1.4 billion and 200,000 US dollars or Rp. 2.8 billion.

First reported by Bloomberg, citing sources close to the company, of course the initiative of the Cupertino-based technology giant, United States (US) to retain software and hardware engineers, with a vesting stake for several years.

Previously, Apple was said to have issued surprise stock bonuses to high-performing engineers last December. Bonuses are awarded across divisions including silicon design, virtual reality headset, hardware and multiple software and operations groups.

The reported bonuses range from US$50,000 or Rp. 717 million to US$ 180,000 or equivalent to Rp. 2.5 billion, which have been distributed in the form of limited share units that will be given over four years. But they have to keep working at Apple and not take jobs in other companies.

Apple has provided bonuses to encourage employee retention and prevent other companies like Meta from hunting for its top talent.

The move also comes as Apple has established a return to work from the office, which it announced earlier this month after roughly two years of remote working amid the escalating COVID-19 pandemic.

During the company's annual shareholder meeting, Apple CEO Tim Cook said company employees would return to work in person starting April.

Employees will be required to work from the office at least one day a week starting April 11 and at least three days a week on May 23.

"For many of you, I know that returning to the office is a long-awaited milestone and a positive sign that we can engage more fully with the co-workers who play such an important role in our lives. For others, it may also be a significant change. unsettling," said Cook.
