At The OKI Conference, Foreign Minister Wang Yi: China Will Continue To Stand Up To The Palestinian People

JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed his country's support for the Palestinian people in front of the foreign ministers of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) currently convening in Islamabad, Pakistan.

"China will continue to stand tall with the Palestinian people. From the beginning, China has supported the international peace conference to promote a fair settlement of the Palestinian issue," Wang said in a written statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Beijing. March.

He said that the Chinese government would never forget the incident when Algeria and other countries jointly proposed a resolution at the United Nations (UN). Nearly 30 Islamic countries firmly supported and brought China back to the United Nations in 1971.

"So is the issue of Palestine which is the main concern of the Islamic world, China has never hesitated or has never even been absent in supporting Palestine," he said.

It also respects the choice of the Afghan people and supports all efforts by the government in that country to establish an inclusive political structure and moderate governance and open a new page of reconciliation for the sake of creating peace in a country newly controlled by the Taliban militant group.

Wang was honored to be invited to the OIC's foreign ministerial meeting, which was the first opportunity for him to speak at the forum.

"This shows the sincere desire for China and Islamic countries to enhance cooperation," said the member of China's State Council.

According to him, Chinese civilization and Islamic civilization have had a significant global influence.

"The relationship between us has been going on for centuries. This relationship has been able to withstand various tests of global challenges and has received solid support from the people. This friendship is based on mutually beneficial equality," he said.

On that occasion, Wang said that China had sent 1.3 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine to 50 Islamic countries and would still send 300 million more doses.

China has also signed infrastructure projects worth US$400 billion (approximately IDR5.75 quadrillion) with 54 Islamic countries within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
