Police Name 2 Suspects Of Burning Oil Well That Kills 3 People In East Aceh
BANDA ACEH - Investigators from the Investigation and Criminal Unit of the East Aceh Police have named two people as suspects in the oil well fire incident in Mata Ie Village, Ranto Peureulak District, East Aceh Regency.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Miftahuda Dizha Fezuono said that the investigation suspect was determined and the case was filed.
"Until now, we have named two people as suspects. Both are residents of the Ranto Peureulak sub-district. While another is still in the process of being investigated," said AKP Miftahuda, quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 24.
AKP Miftahuda said the two suspects, with the initials MS (51), were the owners of the land in the oil well. And the initials ML (32), as the investor in the oil drilling.
"Investigators from the Satreskrim Polres Aceh Timur have examined at least eight witnesses regarding the burning of an oil well that claimed three lives," said AKP Miftahuda.
In addition, investigators also confiscated a number of evidences, including a set of drilling tools and crude oil mixed with water and drilling mud.
The two suspects are suspected of violating Article 40 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning job creation due to amendments to Article 52 Sub-Article 53 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 22 of 2001 concerning oil and gas.
"The threat is six years in prison or a fine of IDR 60 billion. Investigators continue to develop cases to reveal other perpetrators," said AKP Miftahuda Dizha Fezuono.
Previously, an oil well managed by the community traditionally in Mata Ie Village, Ranto Peureulak District, East Aceh Regency, exploded and caught fire, Friday (11/3).
The incident resulted in the death of three oil refining workers. A worker died while on his way to Banda Aceh. Meanwhile, two others died while being treated at a hospital in Banda Aceh.
