Arizona Residents Can Now Add SIM And Digital ID Cards In Apple Wallet
JAKARTA - The additional SIM and ID card features in Apple Wallet have come into effect for residents in Arizona. Both can be used at several airport security checkpoints in collaboration with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
With their driver's license and ID in Apple Wallet, Arizona residents can present it on their iPhone or Apple Watch as valid ID at certain checkpoints at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
"With this technology, Arizona residents are at the forefront of experiencing an efficient airport security process," Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said in a statement.
However, Arizona residents must still use their physical ID. In other situations, they will still need it, including law enforcement interactions. Presenting a valid ID through Apple Wallet is a new technology, and its use will evolve over time.
To add their ID to Wallet, users need to tap on the + button at the top of the screen in Wallet on their iPhone and select SIM or State ID.
Then, they will be asked to take a selfie and scan the front and back of the ID card. As an additional fraud prevention measure, users must complete a series of facial and head movements.
These images will be sent to the state system for verification. To use their digital ID card at the checkpoint, one just has to tap their iPhone or Apple Watch on the identity reader.
Later, they will be shown which information the TSA requests, and they can agree to provide it with Face ID or Touch ID without having to unlock their iPhone or show their ID.
Launching ZDNet, Thursday, March 24, all information is shared digitally, so users don't have to show or hand over their devices to the TSA. Not to be missed, TSA will also take photos of tourists for verification purposes.
It should be noted, this feature is only valid in the states. Apple said other states such as Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, Ohio, and the territory of Puerto Rico will soon follow suit to acquire this new capability, along with seven other states that have been announced previously.
For your information, this feature is available on iPhone 8 or later running iOS 15.4, and Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 8.4 or later.
The release of iOS 15 includes a number of other new features for Apple Wallet, including allowing users to store keys for places like their home, work, or participating locations like Hyatt hotels.
