Spotify Soon Brings Live Audio Features Similar To Clubhouse
JAKARTA - In addition to music and podcasts, Spotify will soon offer live audio features in its main streaming application. Dubbed Greenroom, it launched last year and is claimed to be rebranded as Spotify Live.
Similar to Clubhouse, Spotify Live will be a place where content creators can have live conversations with subscribers as their listeners.
Greenroom will be officially integrated directly before the second half of this year. Evidence of the update emerged after developer Steve Moser found it in the Spotify iOS app.
A Spotify account is not required to use Greenroom. However, this is likely to change with the rebranding of Greenroom and the move to the Spotify platform.
As for Greenroom's ultimate fate, the app will live on as a sort of backend for content creators to record and upload their content to Spotify.
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said he sees live audio as something that every platform will eventually display.
"Just like Stories with video where every major platform has it as a way for its audience to communicate with each other, I see live audio in the same way. I wish all platforms had it," said Ek some time ago as quoted from Engadget, Thursday, March 24.
However, Greenroom has yet to find its audience as its competitors have dominated the live audio space.
