Residents Attack Elelim Papua Police, Intel Head Wounded By Stone

JAKARTA - A group of mobs attacked the Elelim Police in Yalimo Regency, Papua. The Head of Intel's Yalimo Ipda Police Head, Samuel Yunus, was injured by a stone.

"After the operation of local liquor justisi, there were those who did not accept it," said Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw when contacted by VOI, Thursday, September 24.

The Elelim Police attack took place at 12.00 WIT. The crowd threw stones as well as other items such as chairs that were carried.

"There's no using arrows," he said.

According to Paulus, initially the members confiscated local alcohol during the Justisi operation. However, it was rumored that the liquor was deliberately kept by the members.

"They screamed (said) there were members protecting liquor and then threw them at the Police," he continued.

As a result of being hit by a stone, the Yalimo Police Head of Intelligence was taken to Bhayangkara Hospital, Jayapura. No attackers have yet been secured.

"The situation is now under control," said Paulus.
