Bobby Nasution, Mayor Of Medan Who Has A Big Movement To Clean Drainage To Overcome Floods
MEDAN - The sluggishness of the Sumatra II River Basin Center (BWS) to normalize the river which triggers the flood in Medan was responded quickly by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution.
President Joko Widodo's son-in-law has deployed the Medan City Public Works Agency (PU) and Public Facilities and Infrastructure (P3SU) officers from a number of sub-districts to work together to clean up rivers that are silting up and narrowing. Like what was done in Sungai Selayang recently, cleaning is carried out from Jalan Sei Belutu to Jalan Dr Mansyur.
The cleaning was carried out to respond to complaints from local residents whose homes were often flooded when heavy rains fell. As a result of not being normalized for decades, the Selayang River has narrowed and silted up.
This condition causes the river to be unable to accommodate the flow of water flowing from the ditch and drainage, resulting in back water. As a result, houses and roads were flooded.
In addition, Bobby Nasution also directly led the clearing of the AMD trench on Jalan Speksi, Sub-District of Falls, District of Medan Marelan.
The cleaning was carried out because the AMD trench was seriously silted up as it had never been normalized since it was built in 2005. Inevitably, this condition caused the AMD ditch to not work so that water from the ditch and drainage in the Marelan area could not flow into the Bedera River.
Most recently, the number one person in the Medan City Government came directly to respond to flood complaints that were prone to occur in the Medan Denai District, precisely in the Binjai Village area.
To find the cause of the flood, the husband of the Chairman of the Medan City Village Family Empowerment and Welfare Mobilizing Team (PKK TP) Kahiyang Ayu entered the Medan Urban Development Project (MUDP) ditch in the Medan Denai District which was dark, stuffy, smelly and lacked oxygen.
From the results of searches carried out in the culverts, Bobby Nasution found that there was sedimentation that clogs quite badly at several points so that it triggers flooding in a number of areas in the Binjai Village, including the Police Dormitory (Aspol) area, Gg Mestika, and Gg. Jackfruit.
"We hope that the community will also report to the Kepling to the village head if they find a problem in the drainage system, whether it is clogged or there is a building above the drainage that causes the accumulation of garbage/materials so that it interferes with the smooth flow of water. Upon receiving the report, the relevant government officials must respond quickly. This is called community collaboration with the Medan City Government," he explained.
Medan as a Metropolitan city, is not only seen from various kinds of tall buildings, but also leaves the problem of flooding. The community has high hopes for Bobby Nasution to overcome it. "The residents' complaints were immediately followed up by the Mayor, he immediately went down to find the cause of the flood and tried to overcome the flood problem as soon as possible. I hope that the movement to clean drainage, check culverts, restore the spirit of mutual cooperation as an effort to minimize flooding in Medan City must be consistent and sustainable," said Rholand.
