JAKARTA – The Mandalika MotoGP event is indeed extraordinary. Apart from attracting the interest of millions of spectators from all over the world, this motorcycle racing event is also fantastic for the number of items brought by the race participants.
In the records of Angkasa Pura I, as the manager of Lombok International Airport, it is stated that at least 404 tons of logistics needs have arrived. This was confirmed directly by the Managing Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi.
"Five cargo planes have landed with a total of 404,225 kg of cargo," he said in a press statement quoted on Sunday, March 20.
In his explanation, Faik detailed that the five planes arrived in stages, starting from Wednesday, March 9 to Friday, March 11, 2022. The first logistics landed with 72,220 kg of luggage. Then followed by the second aircraft carrying 89,910 kg and the third aircraft 83,385 kg.
Then on Friday, March 11, two planes arrived with logistics weighing 68,015 kg and 90,695 kg, respectively.
"All of the logistics for the MotoGP team were transported by wide-body aircraft belonging to the Qatar Airways airline which departed from Hamad International Airport, Doha, Qatar," he continued.
According to Faik, Angkasa Pura I has even expanded the scope of flight facilities to accommodate the mobility of the giant aircraft.
"We are developing the airport and it has been completed since 2021. One of the most important things is that the airport runway, which was previously 2,750 meters, has been extended to 3,300 meters, and the carrying capacity has been increased so that it is able to serve aircraft operations like the Boeing 777," he explained.
"Angkasa Pura is also building a 1,500-meter-long access road and the construction of a 6,000-square-meter cargo yard that can accommodate 40 cargo trucks to support logistics flows," concluded Faik.
