Jakarta Warkop Who Is Clever At Entertaining And Dare To Reprimand

JAKARTA - "Bodo dipiara. Goats in capia, get fat!" These familiar chirps are often heard in everyday conversation. The ridicule that usually comes out when someone does something reckless comes from a fragment of the film Pintar-Pintar Bodoh (1980) played by Warkop DKI member, Dono, Kasino, Indro. They are a comedy group that not only entertains, but also dares to rebuke rulers who act arbitrarily.

It is not an exaggeration to call Warkop DKI a legendary comedy group. They have been established almost half a century ago to be precise on 23 September 1973.

The DKI Warkop did not attend. It all started when five politically literate men, Kasino, Dono, Rudy Badil, Nanu and Indro, made a program on Prambors radio entitled "Casual Chat at a Coffee Shop."

Warkop Prambors jokes have their own characteristics by frequently flicking the government. This turned out to be liked by many listeners and skyrocketed.

Warkop then began to expand by filling in stage events. When Warkop Prambors was getting brighter, one of its members, Rudy Badil, chose to leave. Rudy reasoned that he had stage fright and finally chose to work as a journalist.

Success on stage, the remaining four members of Warkop Prambors expanded their actions through recorded tapes and films. Brings clever jokes along with witty songs is the hallmark of Warkop Prambors.

The success of the humorous recording brought Warkop Prambors an offer to the film world. The first film they starred in the Warkop Prambors flag was Mana Tahan. The film, which was released in 1979, also featured well-known artists of its time such as Rahayu Effendi, Kusno Sudjarwadi, and Elvie Sukaesih. The film was a success and made Warkop Prambors flooded with offers for the next comedy film.

But in the middle of Warkop Prambors' film career, Nanu died. Still young at that time, namely 30 years old, Nanu died of kidney disease on March 22, 1983.

There are only three Warkop Prambors left and continue to produce films and are known until now. In 1986, they decided to change the name and remove the word Prambors, to become Warkop DKI.

Dare to criticize

The characteristic of Warkop DKI, which is difficult to imitate, most comedy groups are related to the intellectuality of its members. Dono, Kasino and Indro are both good at mixing humor with socio-political criticism.

But being smart is not enough, people who are able to flick political affairs are definitely people who have big guts. It is understandable that Warkop DKI bloomed in the completely authoritarian New Order era. Almost all lines of life of Indonesian society were limited by the government at that time.

Quoting the book Warkop: Playing so Not Playing, which was reported by Tirto, Casinos often take the role of leaders. Apart from the leader, Kasino is also the chief detective, and has also played the character of a manager.

“He also tends to want to be seen as a problem solver with ideas that have only recently been discovered as completely nonsense. Casinos are also synonymous with the character of the ignorant and fond of talking, ”he wrote.

As Warkop DKI's career progressed, its name began to fade after Private TV appeared. Launching Historia, because the film industry slumped, finally Warkop DKI signed a contract to make soap operas.

However, in the middle of his journey, Warkop DKI had to lose another member. Kasino passed away on 18 December 1997 and Dono on 30 December 2001. Another member who contributed to the establishment of Warkop DKI, Rudy Badil, died on Thursday 11 July 2019. Warkop DKI now leaves Indro alone.

Even though several personnel have been left behind, Warkop DKI's humor is still alive in the hearts of Indonesians. One of his quotes that will be remembered by many is: "Laughter before laughter is forbidden."
