Bayern Munich Vs Union Berlin 4-0: Lewandowski Contributes 2 Goals, Nagelsmann Calls A Deserved Victory

JAKARTA - Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski scored in both halves as the German champions thrashed Union Berlin 4-0, on Saturday, cementing their grip on the top of the Bundesliga table.

The Poland international, who reportedly dislikes delaying talks over a Bayern contract extension beyond 2023, has now scored 31 league goals. This is the third season in a row in which he has scored more than 30 goals.

The Bavarians, who are back on winning ways after drawing their last two league games, have 63 points so far, seven ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund who face Cologne on Sunday, with seven games remaining after the weekend.

"We allowed some situations in the second half but overall it was a deserved win," said Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann. "We had the right strategy and were ready from the start. We decided the game straight after the break."

Pursuing a 10th league title to extend their streak to a streak, Bayern took the lead in the 16th minute when Union goalkeeper Andreas Luthe was surprised by Kingsley Coman's shot from outside the box.

Tanguy Nianzou headed home in the 25th minute and Lewandowski converted a penalty in extra time for a three-goal lead before halftime.

The Pole added his second two minutes after the start of the second half, before the hosts looked to develop a quick game to escape the pressure.

"You have to say that Robert gave everything he had," said Kimmich of contract speculation and the striker's possible departure.

Bayern set a new league record after scoring 81 goals on matchday 27, while goalkeeper Manuel Neuer earned his 311th Bundesliga win which was also another league record.
