President Jokowi Scheduled To Open 144th IPU Session At BICC Nusa Dua Bali

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo is scheduled to open the 144th Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) Nusa Dua, Bali, Sunday, March 20.

President Joko Widodo will personally receive around 1,000 delegates from 115 countries who attended the 144th Session of the IPU in Nusa Dua, Bali.

"The holding of the 144th IPU in Bali will be opened by the President (Joko Widodo) on March 20, 2022, (and the activity) will end on March 24, 2022," said Puan Maharani during a press conference at BICC Nusa Dua. March.

In order to prepare for the arrival of President Jokowi, a number of troops have prepared security parameters at the event location and the surrounding area.

Not only preparing for security, health protocols are also strictly implemented to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

All participants who took part in the 144th Session of the IPU, including the journalists who covered the activity, underwent a COVID-19 PCR test.

Not only that, all participants in the event location are required to wear masks and maintain a distance. Units for washing hands, and using hand sanitizer are also available in every corner of the room.

Indonesia is hosting the 144th Session of the IPU which will take place from 20–24 March 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali. Therefore, the Chairperson of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, will chair the entire assembly meeting at the 144th Session of the IPU.

The IPU is a cross-border inter-parliamentary collaboration which is the second largest democratic forum after the United Nations.

Puan, at a press conference at BICC Nusa Dua, Bali, Saturday, said the theme of this year's session was the action of the world parliament to deal with climate change (Getting to Zero: Mobilizing Parliament to Act on Climate Change). However, the IPU's 144th Session did not only discuss climate issues.

IPU President Duarte Pacheco, who was present at the location of the event on Saturday, said that the delegation would also discuss other important issues, namely a peaceful resolution to the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, gender equality, especially in politics, and the role of young people in politics.

Regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Pacheco emphasized that the IPU condemned the invasion and asked all parties to immediately conclude a ceasefire.

Conflict only causes people to suffer, especially children and women.

He conveyed that the IPU asked the parties to the conflict to immediately ceasefire and resolve the problem through dialogue.
