Doctor Ring, Putu A. Parta Wirawan Calls Many Boxing Institutions In Indonesia Potentially Harmful To Boxers
JAKARTA – The number of boxing institutions in Indonesia is considered to be detrimental to professional boxers. This loss can be fatal, such as loss of life.
This was conveyed by the ring doctor, dr. Putu Agus Parta Wirawan at the "Discussion on Boxing Safety and the Future of Indonesian Boxing" at Holywings Gatot Subroto V, South Jakarta, on Thursday, March 17.
"A lot of boxing commissions can be detrimental to boxers. Because I am also at ATI (Indonesian Boxing Association), KTI (Indonesian Boxing Commission) and FTPI (Indonesian Professional Boxing Federation)," said Putu, who is registered as having a BOPI license and has participated in the WBA convention.
Currently in Indonesia itself has an independent institution that handles professional boxing. Besides KTI, ATI, and FTPI, there are two other institutions, namely the Indonesian Professional Boxing Commission (KTPI) and the Indonesian Boxing Federation (FTI).
Puju explained that when there was a Boxing Ring program on TVRI, a boxer's fighting frequency could be excessive. The same boxer can fight under different agency names in adjacent events.
“In the TVRI boxing ring, today KTI is the boxer, later he will play at ATI again. If a boxer loses six points in a row, he must stop for six weeks. Who wants to record now. BOPI has been disbanded," he said.
In addition to the many boxing institutions, the absence of the Indonesian Professional Sports Body (BOPI) is also a problem. The agency in charge of providing guidance and supervision has been disbanded by President Joko Widodo following the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 112 of 2020.
The absence of a supervisory agency makes it difficult for ring doctors like Putu to see the frequency of a boxer's fight before entering the ring. In fact, professional boxers should have a black book containing the match records of each boxer as an absolute requirement before fighting.
If a new boxer loses his first KO then he must rest 45 days. If you lose (KO) twice in a row, you must rest for 90 days.
Then if you lose by knockout for the third time in a row, the boxer must take 180 days to rest. Meanwhile, if a boxer loses by knockout four times, he must stop being a boxer. Records like that can be known if a boxer has a black book.
“The professional boxer has a license so he gets the black book. The number of times he competed he had a black book. The boxer's record is there. As a ring doctor, I'm having a hard time now. We can't know. The boxer in question lost points or lost by knockout (KO)," said Putu.
Problems related to this black book resurfaced after Indonesian boxer Hero Tito died some time ago. The boxer from Malang previously had too many matches, even too much.
Hero died after suffering from a coma after losing by knockout in the seventh round to James Mokoginta in the fight at Holywings Club, Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) Jakarta on Sunday night 27 February 2022.
