Supporting MotoGP Event, Garuda Indonesia Group Serves 236 Flights From And To Lombok
JAKARTA - Ahead of the MotoGP international motorcycle racing event which will be held in Mandalika, Lombok this March, the national airline Garuda Indonesia Group is expanding the accessibility of its flight network to and from Lombok. This is done to meet the high public interest in witnessing the international event firsthand.
President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, said that the effort to expand accessibility was realized through various initiatives to increase flight capacity to and from Lombok.
"From March 15, 2022 to March 23, 2022, the Garuda Indonesia Group has prepared at least 236 flights to and from Lombok," he said, in a written statement received by VOI, quoted on Thursday 17 March.
As for the details, Garuda Indonesia will serve 138 flights using wide-body aircraft A330-300 and A330-200 and narrow body aircraft B737-800NG.
"Meanwhile, Citilink will provide 98 flights by operating a fleet of Airbus A 320 which connects Lombok to and from three major cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar," he said.
In addition, said Irfan, Garuda Indonesia will also present a special shuttle flight service with the Denpasar-Lombok PP route which will operate on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
"The presence of this shuttle flight is expected to be a separate option for people who want to watch the MotoGP event in Mandalika, Lombok, as well as travel in Bali with a more seamless choice of flight schedules," he explained.
Irfan said as a national flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia will continue to move adaptively in maximizing the provision of flight services in line with the momentum of various international events in Indonesia this year.
"One of them is MotoGP, which this year will be held in Mandalika, Lombok," he said.
According to Irfan, it is a matter of pride for the Garuda Indonesia Group to play a role in smooth mobility, especially during the MotoGP event by offering safe, comfortable and healthy flight services.
"In addition, the expansion of this flight service is also a form of our commitment in presenting the best contribution for Indonesia as the host of the international event," he said.
Irfan hopes that through the support for air connectivity presented by the Garuda Indonesia Group, it will not only bridge the needs of the community to witness the MotoGP event, but also be a continuous step to strengthen the collaboration of the Indonesian tourism ecosystem.
In line with the addition of flight capacity, Garuda Indonesia also supports the smooth running of the MotoGP event through the operation of 23 special charter flights intended for participants and official teams.
"As well as providing extra services in the form of additional baggage for all riders and officials who will fly to Lombok, including the provision of a dedicated check-in counter as an added value for pre-flight," he said.
In addition to sustainable implementation, said Irfan, the Garuda Indonesia Group also continues to monitor the situation and developments in the community's flight needs to ensure that flight services can always be met, especially when international events take place in Indonesia.
