Sidoarjo Trials Eco Leachate To Eliminate Waste Odors
SIDOARJO - The Environmental and Hygiene Service (DLHK) of Sidoarjo Regency, East Java conducted a trial using eco leachate, namely a deodorizing liquid from livestock waste in two slaughterhouses in Krian District.
Sidoarjo Regent Ahmad Muhdlor (Gus Muhdlor) responded to the findings of Rania Nura Andindhita, a resident of Prasung, Buduran Sidoarjo who is also a student of UGM Yogyakarta by testing eco leachate to overcome the smell of resident's livestock waste.
"The Sidoarjo Regency Government often receives complaints regarding the presence of livestock that cause odors. We will try to handle this later with eco leachate, an odor neutralizing formula that was found by the residents of Sidoarjo themselves," said Gus Muhdlor as he is known as Antara, Wednesday, March 16.
He asked the Environment and Hygiene Service to conduct trials to overcome the smell of waste from cattle and lambs as well as the smell of other small industrial waste which has been a problem in the community.
"The finding of a formula for neutralizing the smell of garbage or eco leachate, in addition to eliminating the smell of garbage, can be tried to eliminate the smell of livestock waste," said Gus Muhdlor.
During this time, continued Gus Muhdlor, livestock businesses and other small industries such as leather production, slaughterhouse businesses and cattle and goat farming businesses have often been complained by residents because they cause unpleasant odors that disturb local residents.
"If the results from the trial of the use of eco leachate are as expected, it can neutralize the smell of livestock waste, then this will be a solution for farmers and other small industry players who have been having trouble finding a deodorizing formula," said Gus Muhdlor.
Previously, DLHK Sidoarjo had used eco-leachate liquid to deal with the smell of garbage in garbage transporting vehicles, because so far, DLHK's garbage collection vehicles have been quite disturbing to road users because of the smell.
"Now it's much reduced, after spraying eco leachate the smell becomes neutral," said M. Bahrul Amig, Head of DLHK Sidoarjo.
On the orders of the Regent of Sidoarjo, the eco leachate was finally tested at a slaughterhouse in Tropodo Village and Katerungan Village, Krian District.
Amig said that this trial was the first to remove the smell of livestock waste.
"We will see the changes after the eco leachate is sprayed. We have asked the village head to monitor its progress," he said.
