Timika Navy Base Immediately Upgrades To Type B Status
TIMIKA - Commander of the TNI AL Main Base IX Merauke Brigadier General TNI Marines Gatot Mardiyono said the TNI AL Base Timika, which currently has type C status, will soon be upgraded to type B status.
Brigadier General Gatot said the increase in the status of the Timika Navy Base was due to the consideration that the working area was so wide that it included not only the waters of the Mimika Regency, but also the waters of the Asmat Regency and the waters of the Kaimana Regency in West Papua Province.
In addition, the existence of the mining company PT Freeport Indonesia as one of the national vital objects is also the basis for upgrading the status of the Timika Navy Base to type B.
"We have submitted a proposal to the leadership in the hope that Lanal Timika, who is currently Type C, will be upgraded to Type B, so that later the Commander of Lanal Timika will be held by an officer with the rank of colonel," said Brigadier General Gatot, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 16.
On Wednesday afternoon, Brigadier General Gatot and his wife made their first visit to the Timika Navy Base Headquarters. Brigadier General Gatot had only been serving as Danlantamal XI Merauke for a few months replacing Brigadier General (Mar) Edy Prakoso.
The working area of Lantamal XI Merauke is wide enough to cover most of the southern coast of Papua, from Merauke, Mappi, Asmat, Mimika to Kaimana regencies.
Brigadier General Gatot said in the first 100 days of serving as Danlantamal XI Merauke he had a program to visit all Indonesian Navy units in his area.
"Lanal Timika is the largest Lanal and quite far from our Mako in Merauke. That's why I came to Timika to see the condition of the office and our personnel on duty at Lanal Timika to motivate them and at the same time we will check directly the existing Navy posts. in Timika," he explained.
