Ahsan/Hendra And Jonatan To The Second Round Of All England 2022, Fajar/Rian Removed By Leo/Daniel
JAKARTA – The Indonesian men's doubles pair Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan stepped into the second round of the All England 2022. They stopped the Indian representatives MR Arjun/Dhruv Kapila.
Ahsan/Hendra had to fight for 52 minutes to advance to the second round from Field 1 Utlita Arena Birmingham, England, on Wednesday, March 16. The pair nicknamed The Daddies won through a duel in three sets of 15-21, 21-12, and 21-18.
This victory automatically widens the Daddies' win-lose record over the Indian representatives to 2-0. Previously, this pair met in the semifinals of the 2020 Asian Team Badminton Championships, where the Indonesian representatives won in three sets as well.
In the second round later, Ahsan / Hendra who was present in the oldest championship as the second seed will face Chinese representatives Liu Cheng / Zhang Nan. Liu and his colleagues pocketed tickets to the second round after defeating representatives of Denmark Jeppe Bay / Lasse Molhede.
The second round ticket was also secured by Jonatan Christie's singles. The owner of the 2018 Asian Games gold medal also had to fight to escape in a fierce battle of three sets 9-21, 21-16, 21-17 against French men's singles Brice Leverdez.
This is the fourth meeting between the two badminton players. Jonathan won two of the previous three matches, respectively at the 2017 Thailand Open and the 2019 Malaysia Open, while the only defeat he suffered was against Brice at the 2018 Malaysia Open.
In the second round, Jonathan as the seventh seed will face Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn. Kunlavut himself advanced to the second round by getting rid of India's representative, Prannoy HS, in straight sets 21-15, 24-22.
The surprise happened when fellow Indonesian representatives Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin faced their seniors Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto. Leo/Daniel managed to penetrate the second round after winning two sets over the sixth seed.
