The Term Of Office Of The Governors-Deputy Governors Of The Riau Islands Is Only Three Years
TANJUNGPINANG - The General Election Commission of the Riau Islands Province stated that the terms of office for the Governor of the Riau Islands, Ansar Ahmad, and the Deputy Governor of the Riau Islands, Marlin Agustina, were only three years.
Riau Islands KPUD member, Arison said, their term of office ended on February 25, 2024.
"The term of office for regional heads and deputy regional heads ends according to the time of inauguration. As Ansar-Marlin was inaugurated on February 25, 2021, the term of office for February 25, 2024 ends," he said in Tanjungpinang, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, March 16.
According to him, the term of office that does not reach one five-year period is a consequence of holding the 2024 simultaneous regional elections. Based on applicable regulations, the simultaneous regional elections will be held on 27 November 2024.
Starting from the end of the term of office of the regional head and deputy regional head to the inauguration of the elected regional head candidate, the government will appoint a temporary official as the regional head.
"11 days after the 2024 election, Ansar-Marlin's term ends," he said.
Arison said that the pilkada stage would be held a year before the voting stage. This means that starting in November 2023, the pilkada stages have been carried out.
"We are still waiting for the KPU regulations. Maybe after the elected KPU member candidates are inaugurated, a hearing will be held, then it will be determined as the pilkada stage," he said.
The Riau Islands KPUD estimates that the budget for the 2024 Riau Islands Pilkada will not be much different from the 2020 election budget. The Riau Islands Provincial Government allocated a budget of Rp. 98 billion for the 2020 Riau Islands Pilkada, but it was returned to the regional treasury of Rp. 80 billion.
"The amount of the regional election budget will depend on the conditions in 2023-2024," he said.
