Bong Joon Ho's Sarcastic Speech At The Golden Globe Received Appreciation
JAKARTA - The 2020 Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held on January 5, United States time. This form of appreciation for film and television presents various nominations that throughout 2019 have captured the hearts of viewers.
Parasite, a film from South Korea managed to attract attention because it won the Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language or Best Foreign Language Film. Parasite beat Lulu Wang's The Farewell, Ladj Ly's Les Misérables, Pedro Almodóvar's Pain and Glory, and Céline Sciamma's Potrait of a Lady on Fire.
Parasite director Bong Joon Ho, along with the main cast Song Kang Ho, Lee Jung-Eun, and Cho Yeo-jeong attended the event. When he received the trophy, with the help of a translator, Joon Ho's speech was quite short. However, he quite surprised the guests with his sentence.
He said, "When you overcome the barrier of one inch of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many amazing films." This sentence pokes fun at people who are still in sentiment with foreign language films and the use of subtitles in films.
“To be nominated with international filmmakers is a great honor. I think we only use one language: cinema. " The short speech received a lot of appreciation from the guests.

Being one of the most successful foreign language films, Parasite has received many awards since its release last year. In fact, this film received the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes festival. These dozens of awards made Parasite the first Korean film to win an international scale award.
While backstage, Bong Joon Ho receives a question about why the public likes the film Parasite. He answered that this happened because the issue of the rich and the poor that was featured in the film was related to everyone.
"And this film is also about capitalism, especially when capitalism in America occurs so it's natural to get an explosive response," he said.
Parasite tells of a poor family who got the opportunity to work in Mr. Park (Lee Sun Gyu). The job brings them to experience unforgettable adventures.
