According to the Head of Public Relations of the Sumenep Police, AKP Widiarti, the shooting was forced by the police because the thugs took dangerous actions, including not heeding the police's request to surrender.
"Because the warning was not heeded, the officers were forced to act by firing shots," said Widi, quoted by Antara, Monday, March 14.
He said the shooting incident occurred in front of a shop house in Perum Bumi Sumekar, Kolor Village, Sumenep City District on Sunday (13/3) afternoon at around 16.30 WIB.
"It happened in front of the Sakinah Supermarket," he said.
According to Widi, the robber who had to be shot by the police had the initials HM (24) a resident of East Gadu Village, Ganding District, Sumenep, while the woman who was about to be robbed and held hostage using a sickle was a resident of Kolor, Sumenep.
In several videos circulating on the WhatsApp application platform, it can be seen that the shooting by officers was carried out more than once.
Even though the victim was lying and helpless, the police were still shooting. "Because members are worried that he is running away," he said.
While in a paralyzed and helpless condition, the police immediately took the perpetrator to the hospital, but on the way he died.
"This thief did not die on the spot, he will still be on his way when he is about to be taken to the hospital," he said.
Some netizens protested the shooting pattern by the officers, because the shooting pattern was repeated several times even when the perpetrator was helpless.
However, Sumenep Police Public Relations Head AKP Widiarti explained that the shooting by the police had been measured.
