Benedict Cumberbatch Offers Ukrainians A Place To Stay
JAKARTA - Benedict Cumberbatch said he wanted to be involved in the UK government's "Homes for Ukraine" program to offer housing for Ukrainian refugees. Quoted from The Guardian, Monday, March 14, the program allows British citizens to accommodate Ukrainian refugees in their homes.
Each house will receive an incentive from the government of 350 pounds, or around Rp. 6.5 million per month. Registration for the UK government's "Homes for Ukraine" program starts today.
"We all need to do more than just wear the (Ukraine flag) badge. We need to donate, we need to put pressure on our politicians to keep creating a kind of paradise here for people who are suffering," Cumberbatch told Sky News while attending the awards red carpet. British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) at Albert Hall, London, England quoted from ANTARA, March 14.
During the event, he appeared pinning the Ukrainian flag badge on his clothes. The actor was nominated for best lead role at BAFTA for his role in the film "The Power of the Dog".
Still on the same occasion, Cumberbatch urged people to take action to help Ukrainian refugees displaced by the Russian invasion.
He said the conditions of the Russo-Ukrainian war were a shocking moment for Europeans. Cumberbatch also said there were many people voluntarily hosting Ukrainian refugees in their homes.
Earlier this week, Cumberbatch also voiced support for Ukraine by raising the country's flag as a symbol of solidarity at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.
